Frequently Asked Questions

About TCFC

Who are you?

Timber City FC is an AYSO Alliance competitive youth soccer club based in Eau Claire, WI, providing opportunities for area youth U9-U15 to develop and compete through the game soccer.
TCFC was organized by coaches from the AYSO United - Eau Claire program when it was nationally sunset after the 25-26 season.
TCFC is about development, fun, and competition.

How is TCFC run?

TCFC is an AYSO Alliance program run in cooperation with AYSO Area 6B.
In general, board members, administrators, and coaches are volunteers.

AYSO Alliance?

TCFC follows the 6 AYSO Philosophies

AYSO Philosophies

Everyone Plays

Every player on every team must play at least 50 percent of every game.

Balanced Teams

We form teams based on similar skill levels to foster a developmentally appropriate environment for all players.

Open Registration

All eligible players are given opportunity to try out for AYSO Alliance teams.

Positive Coaching

Coaches will create a positive environment and experience for every player.

Good Sportsmanship

We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our programs are designed to instill good sportsmanship.

Player Development

We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.

Parent involvement?

We do not have any required 'volunteer hours', or specific parent involvement requirements.
If you'd like to get involved, there are often opportunities to be a 'team manager' or help with other club tasks.
We also have opportunites to coach, no experience required. Reach out if you're interested!

About Club Soccer

What is club soccer?

Club soccer, sometimes called 'travel soccer', is a more competitive environment.
Expectations on player skill level and commitment are generally higher than a recreational program.
Practices are held more often, and teams often participate in tournaments in addition to normal league play.

When should I consider club soccer?

If your player is looking for more out of the game, has a desire to improve, and is already performing well in their recreational program, then club soccer may be the next logic step in their progression.

How far do we travel?

TCFC teams compete in the WYSA Northwest Classic League.
Host sites are generally within a 1 hour drive of Eau Claire (ex. Rice Lake, Menomonie, New Richmond)
We play two matches each game-day so you'll get the most out of your travel time.

What if my player can't make it to every event?

In general, missing a few events will not affect your players experience in the club.
TCFC is also supportive of its multi-sport athletes, we know certain other sports can have overlapping seasons.
Please reach out if you have questions about your specific situation.

Rostering

Do all players make the team?

Due to many factors, we may be unable to roster all players and will make 'cuts'.

How are teams formed?

Players attend one or more tryouts and may be offered a spot on a team.
Teams are generally organized by age group and, when possible, gender.
Teams can be Boys, Girls, or Co-ed. Players may be invited to play 'up', in an older age division, but can never play 'down', in a lower age division.
Rosters will be kept lean in order to maximize playing time for each player.

How do co-ed teams work?

Co-ed teams will play in the Boys division of NWCL. Opposing teams may or may not be co-ed and there are no rules about the composition of teams, on-field distribution of players, etc.

What age division is my player in?

With the 2026-2027 season, US Youth Soccer, AYSO, and other national entities have cooperated to move to a 'school-year' based age system.
The registration year runs from August 1 to July 31 of the following year.
See the chart below, or enter your players age in the USYS Age Tool to verify.

Will my player actually get to play?

Yes. One of the AYSO core philosophies is "Everyone Plays".
Each player on a team will get at least 50% playing time.
